Have either you or Mr Will pondered whether Trump, if impeached and removed from office in 2019 and running again and winning in 2020 would be eligible for a full term in 2024?
US Constitution, article I, section 3 says:
“Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law.”
So presumably, a successful impeachment does, or at least, can, include a prohibition on running again.
Impeachment removes the offender from office. The Senate then votes separately on whether to disqualify him (thusfar it’s always been a him) from office. It rarely does so. At least one impeached judge has later been elected to Congress.
